It all started with the Big Ben! The year 2009. The world was seeing a fierce recovery from the Great Recession of 2008. The year was also witnessing pioneering ideas taking over the world - the likes of Warby Parker and Airbnb were slowly on the rise and Facebook had shown the world the potential of networking via technology.

THE IDEA TAKES ROOT

Sakshi was working as a Management Consultant in London. At the same time, she was also smitten by an idea. She spent many weekends shuttling between Paris & London for this dream. From setting coffee meetings at Starbucks, H.R.Higgins at Mayfair in London, to Cafe de la Paix in Paris. From meeting friends from the fashion houses of Hermes, Gucci, and Levi - to meeting acquaintances/potential partners from Savile Row. She spent months tirelessly researching as she believed with all her heart in this idea. An idea - to ensure a personal fit for all. And the idea consumed her mind.

About 12 years ago, Rish founded one of the largest online Microvolunteering platforms. He was deeply moved while working with a non-profit dealing with the aftermath of textile waste. Rish decided to change things ground up and teamed up with his now-wife Sakshi to establish Hangrr - bringing great quality clothing without the waste, human plight & exorbitant costs.

We set up a blueprint to build a tech-first manufacturing facility & to cut out all the middlemen. We set ourselves 2 goals -
1) To make the best custom products at a fraction of the cost
2) To manufacture sustainably and to empower our artisans towards dignity

TO HOUSTON

Philadelphia Eagles and the Warby Parker story were enough to persuade Rish to think about attending Wharton. The admissions committee found the matching stars with an interview call. Little did we know that this would put Hangrr into another orbit. A chance encounter with his IIT batchmate put us in Houston and there was no looking back. The quest to change fashion globally intensified.

FAST-TRACK

During a holiday in Singapore, we met with some Finance and Consulting professionals at an Airbnb on Clarke Quay. Friendly meetings and fireside chats over 'Kopi', further strengthened the global footprint of Hangrr. Kicking off the Singapore chapter with a PE-VC event that year, we decided to set up our world-class customer support in the heart of the city.
